Federal Government

It is a system of government that divides the power between a large central government and the local and regional government were established by the constitution.

Features of Federalism

  1. There are two or more levels of government.
  2. Different levels (tires) of the government govern the same citizen but each level have its own Jurisdictions (area).
  3. The Jurisdiction of the respective levels (tires) of government  are specified in the constitution.
  4. The Provisions of the constitution cannot be changed by one level of government. Such change require the consent of both the levels.
  5. The Judiciary act as an umpire if dispute arise between different levels of government.
  6. Sources of revenue for each level of government are clearly specified to ensure it financial autonomy.
  7. Federal system has dual objective:-
  •       to safeguard and promote unity of the country.
  •       accommodate regional diversity
